Do Computers Dream of Electronic Videos?

In this short presentation I will show a simple research idea on parametric video playlists based on audio analysis. TouchDesigner offers great audio computing straight out-of-the-box. It can of course also be plugged-in to other software such as Pure Data or Ableton Live and I will be covering briefly the advantages between the two methods. Mapping audio-parameters (such as beat, pitch, tempo, amplitude) to editing and decisions (video source, compositing, transparency, fps) can have surprising results, resulting in a self-running video-piece that gets completely constructed in real-time. Raising interesting questions of who is running the show, authorship is thus shared between the computer and the video-artist, both collaborating and clashing on the aesthetic decisions that are being taken 60 times per second.
